Since graduating from Leeds University with a BA (HONS) in Graphic Design, Mark has worked in the design industry for 8 years with a diverse range of clients including Adidas, The Vegetarian Society, Contact Theatre, CIDS, Fat Northerner Records and Elvis Jesus Clothing, to name but a few.
Inspired by the New York graffiti scene in the early 80’s, Mark was around 10 years old when he first borrowed a copy of the graffiti bible ‘Subway Art’ from his local library and so began a life long interest in radical visual communication, from graffiti artists such as Futura 2000 to the kings of 60’s psychedelic poster design, Mouse and Kelley.
As an avid vinyl collector since his early teens, Mark’s is also obsessed with record sleeve design, particularly the work of designers such as Vaughan Oliver, Central Station and the Designers Republic. “Basically, all the visual manifestations of ‘underground’ culture continue to be my main inspiration. Maybe I’ll grow out of it one day and start feeling inspired by corporate annual report design, but I doubt it”.
Like most lads who grew up in Manchester, Mark is completely obsessed with music and football along with fashion, art, politics and literature...but mostly music and football.
Mark has many memorable projects he’s worked on, “It’s always nice to work on a project that reflects your personal interests but sometimes you get just as much of a buzz finding the right solution for a company that manufactures toilet roll as you do from designing artwork for a really exciting new band...okay, maybe that’s stretching it a bit but you get the point”.
